Item SW206, Free Blown Handled Chestnut with an applied Seal, ROBERT S. COS _ _ _ _ (the last four letters of the second name are not legible), amber, Open Pontil, 7” high, applied lip and applied handle, has some high point wear otherwise perfect condition, very unusual small size, extremely rare and possibly unique, from New York City circa 1853 to 1860, $2,300
Note: Roberts & Co were liquor dealers in New York City in the mid 1850’s. They are listed in the city directories at that time. There is one bottle embossed “ROBERTS & CO / ROYAL SCHIEDAM – SCHNAPPS – NEW YORK”. This sealed bottle is very likely the product of a short partnership between Roberts and another person whose name starts with the letters “COS”.
