Item MS169, FORBES & CO / CHATAM / SQUARE / NEW YORK – PATENT – OIL BLACKING – GUTA PERCHA, medium to deep yellowish olive amber, 5” high, large deep tubular Open Pontil, nice crude applied lip, nicely whittled, has a small (1/4”) flash or bruise near the bottom right side of the “PATENT” panel which is hard to see and impossible to photograph, also some light dullness or “bloom” near the bottom of the “PATENT” panel, otherwise perfect condition. This example has the best embossing of the few examples we have seen. In spite of the minor flaws, we believe this to be a superior example of this very rare and appealing bottle, circa 1850 to 1855, Sold
